The course will consist of a research project relevant to the student's coursework. It may be conducted in collaboration with an employer or other business or government body or it may be a project that encompasses many disciplines in science and relate to an issue or interest relevant to many areas.

The details of the project will be negotiated between the student and the supervisor/s and be approved by the relevant Associate Dean (Education).

Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:

The nature of this course means that the learning outcomes are very individual and specific. However, in general, on satisfying the requirements of this course students will have the knowledge and skills to:

1. Under Supervision, plan and engage in an independent science research investigation including analysis and interpretation of results; (LO1)

2. Systematically review relevant theory and concepts, relate these to appropriate methodologies and evidence, and draw appropriate conclusions; (LO2)

3. Appropriately apply statistical or other evaluation processes to original data;(LO3)

4. Understand and apply ethical standards of conduct in the collection and evaluation of data and other resources; (LO4)

5. Communicate research concepts and contexts clearly and effectively both in writing and orally. (LO5)

Other Information

Students must fill out a Research Project Summary form as well as Enrolment Change form and seek approval from the Associate Director of Science Education of the relevant discipline. Once the forms have been filled and signed they must be submitted to the Science Central Office on the Ground Floor of the Peter Baume Building #42.

Indicative Assessment

• Research Project (80%) (LO1-5)

• Seminar (20%) (LO5)

The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity.
