Scholarships

This program will provide students with a broad introduction both to the study of Asia as well as to the teaching of Asia in their classrooms. Through this program students will gain an understanding of cultural, political, linguistic, historical and societial issues that pertain to Asia, as well as an understanding of how to teach these issues to their primary and high-school pupils.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate specialised knowledge in Asian Studies culture, politics, history and linguistics and apply this knowledge in the area of classroom teaching.
- Make high level, independent judgements about Asian societies and the way in which they operate, understanding the diversity of the region.
- Create specific specialised classroom activities through broader research practices.
- Demonstrate the cognitive skills to review, analyse, consolidate material available on Asian societies.
- Think critically about Australia’s place in the region and the world, and in the so-called ‘Asian Century’
- Demonstrate communication skills to explain Asian societies within schools to fellow teachers, parents and stakeholders.
Academic Advice
The first step to enrolling in your new program is to seek academic advice in order to discuss the courses you will be studying. This is done by making an appointment to meet the program convenor Dr Ross Tapsell. Appointments will be held during the week of 10-15 February 2014.
Your academic advice session is a great opportunity to discuss the direction in which you want your studies to go. At this session, you will be able to get advice about course selection and content of courses that you will undertake as part of your program. Ideally you should bring along a copy of your academic record/academic transcripts as these will greatly assist when giving you course advice.
