Admission Requirements

1. Applicants are required to hold a Bachelor degree with a minimum GPA of 5/7 in one of a business, economics, finance, accounting, management, marketing, international business, mathematics or statistics discipline from an Australian university or equivalent overseas institution.

2. Students who do not have a Bachelor degree in business, economics, finance, accounting, management, international business, mathematics or statistics discipline, may enter the program after first completing the Graduate Certificate of Finance and Actuarial Statistics, and achieving a performance average of ANU 60% or better.

3. Students entering the program are required to have an understanding of mathematics equivalent to at least one year of university level mathematics including calculus and algebra.

4. All applicants must meet the University’s English Language Admission Requirements for Students

Learning Outcomes

  1. Graduates of the Master of Applied Finance will have the necessary cognitive skills to demonstrate a superior knowledge of the three ideas underpinning finance: the time value of money; diversification; and, arbitrage and to critically assess their application to corporate financial decision-making; investment decisions and portfolio management; derivatives and risk management; portfolio construction; corporate valuation; and debt markets.
  2. Graduates will be able to demonstrate strong cognitive, technical and communication skills in interpreting, analysing, and evaluating financial information and problems.
  3. Graduates will develop professional abilities that will enhance research and analytical skills.

Further Information

As FINM8009 Derivatives: Markets, Valuation and Risk Management will not be available in Semester 1 2015, students will be able to replace it with FINM7045 Asian Capital Markets.

Enrolment Status

It is possible to enrol in fewer courses per semester but it will take you longer to finish your program and get your degree. If you are an international student you must always be enrolled full-time in 24 units each semester.

You are encouraged to enrol in courses for both First Semester and Second Semester.  You will be able to change your enrolment in courses up until Monday of week 2 of each semester without penalty.

Academic Advice

Before applying for any exemption towards the program, students should read the information about credit applications on the CBE website: https://www.cbe.anu.edu.au/students/student-information/enrolment/application-for-credit_master-of-f... Students should include details of ANU courses for which they seek course credit on the credit application form. They are also required to attach course outlines of their previous studies (if not undertaken at ANU), or assessment of their qualification completed by any relevant professional bodies.

If after reading through these guidelines you are unsure about your which courses to enrol in, you can come to an academic advice session at Melville Hall during Orientation week or a CBE drop in session, or contact your program convenor, Dr Anna Von-Reibnitz (anna.vonreibnitz@anu.edu.au). She is available by appointment. Please ensure you take a copy of your academic transcript with you when you meet with Dr Von-Reibnitz or at the Melvillle Hall session.
