Program Requirements

The Diploma of Advanced Studies requires the completion of 48 units, which must consist of:

6 units from completion courses from the following list:

EXTN1001 Astrophysics

EXTN1002 Chemistry

EXTN1003 Chinese Secondary Extension - Continuing

EXTN1004 Conservation Biology

EXTN1005 Discovering Engineering

EXTN1006 Japanese Secondary Extension - Continuing

EXTN1007 Japanese Secondary Extension - Advanced

EXTN1008 Korean Beginning Secondary - Extension

EXTN1009 Korean Continuing Secondary - Extension

EXTN1010 Performing Indonesian Language Secondary Extension

EXTN1011 Physics

EXTN1012 Specialist Mathematics

42 units from the completion of 1000-level courses offered by ANU

Students must be awarded a year 12 certificate with an ATAR of 80 or higher to progress to 1000-level courses in subject areas other than EXTN Extension.

Elective Study

Once you have met the program requirements of your degree, you may have enough electives to complete an additional elective major, minor or specialisation.

Admission Requirements

For domestic students

• Concurrent full-time enrolment in year 11 or 12 at a secondary school while enrolled in the EXTN Extension courses.
• Enrolment in any co-requisite subjects at the student’s home school
• Permission from the student’s school principal to enrol in the program.
• Satisfactory performance in the ANU Extension selection test
• Completion of the ANU Extension application form

In addition to the above, international students must meet the University’s English Language requirements.

A draft Principals recommendation form is attached. This will be used in conjunction with the current application form (attached as separate PDF) for ANU Secondary College, ensuring that the preferred subjects for the students are entered and any further technical details required to admit the student.

Adjustment Factors

The National Access Scheme 2014

ANU offers bonus points for nationally strategic senior secondary subjects, and in recognition of difficult circumstances that students face in their studies. 

Bonus points are applied to all applicants with an ATAR at or above 70. Points are awarded in accordance with the approved schedule, and no more than 10 points (maximum 5 academic points and maximum 5 equity points) will be awarded.

Bonus points do not apply to programs with an ATAR cutoff of 98 or higher.

Bonus Points are only awarded to domestic applicants applying for admission through UAC who have not previously attempted tertiary study.

How to apply

Academic Bonus Points: senior secondary students do not need to apply for ANU academic bonus points. They are automatically added in accordance with the schedule.

Educational Access Scheme: senior secondary students do not need to apply if their school is part of the Priority School Funding Program or Country Areas Program. All other applicants should refer to http://www.uac.edu.au/eas/  for more information.

Scholarships

ANU offers a wide range of scholarships to students to assist with the cost of their studies.

Eligibility to apply for ANU scholarships varies depending on the specifics of the scholarship and can be categorised by the type of student you are.  Specific scholarship application process information is included in the relevant scholarship listing.
