The Master of International Relations requires the completion of 96 units, which must consist of:

Admission Requirements

A Bachelor degree or international equivalent with a minimum GPA of 5/7.

Applicants with a Bachelor Degree or Graduate Certificate in a cognate discipline may be eligible for 24 units (one semester) of credit.

Applicants with a Graduate Diploma or Honours in a cognate discipline may be eligible for 48 units (one year) of credit.

All applicants must meet the University's English Language Admission Requirements for Students

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of a Master of International Relations, graduates will be able to:

  1. Discuss the dynamics of contemporary international relations, especially in the Asia-Pacific region;
  2. Discuss the key theories for the analysis of contemporary international relations;
  3. Use international relations theory to reflect upon contemporary problems in areas such as international security, global governance, international political economy or human rights;
  4. Conduct high-level research and writing to undertake self-directed study in international relations;
  5. Analyse new areas of concern in both scholarly and policy-relevant terms;
  6. Communicate their findings in academic and practical contexts, justifying their approach and methods in appropriate.

Applicants to the Master of International Relations (Advanced) degree are particularly encouraged to apply for the Hedley Bull scholarship which provides a full-fee waiver for the duration of the degree.
