Advanced Construction aims to introduce graduate students to the material properties and possibilities of working with mild steel as a plastic material. The course will provide experience working with a range of metal processes and the hand tools relating to mild steel. Students will work on both self-generated projects and on projects devised to extend expertise in specific techniques and processes. Attendance at technical workshops and demonstrations is expected.
The course includes instruction in safe working practices and Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) guidelines. Students are expected to complete various technical exercises and demonstrate competency in the safe use of new equipment and materials.

Assessment includes periodic critique and review sessions that provide ongoing feedback on work in progress.
