Sanskrit is spoken in a surprising number of traditional schools, ashrams and colleges throughout India, but especially in holy centres and pilgrimage sites in the North. In addition, there is a small but growing community of Sanskrit speakers outside India. This two-week residential course, run intensively over the Australian summer, will give students immersion experience in Spoken Sanskrit. Students will acquire basic facility with introoductory conversational patterns, and will improve their aural comprehension through story telling, and their pronunciation through chanting and singing.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:
1. Fluency in basic conversational patterns.
2. High level of comprehension in basic conversational patterns.
3. Accuracy in prounciation in recitation of subhashitas (verses).
4. Intermediate level of aural comprehesion of simple spoken narratives.

The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity.
