Gender and Development Specialisation

The Gender and Development specialisation takes your passion for gender issues and puts it into practice.

Learn the practical skills to apply a gendered approach to development activities, and improve your ability to argue for gender equity in development programs and policies.

The program is taught by active development practitioners and the University's world-leading academics in anthropology and gender studies.

The Gender and Development specialisation will advance your career in development, policy, and program management focusing on gender issues, in government and non-government organisations or as an independent consultant.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:
  1. demonstrate a critical appreciation of major gender issues in development;
  2. link the concepts and approaches used by feminist scholars and practitioners to gender and development theory;
  3. identify the gaps and use the skills in formulating development projects from a gender perspective through familiarity with gender concerns;
  4. describe and evaluate quantitative and qualitative data from a gender perspective, such as the appraisal of a development project or policy in terms of its likely gender impacts; and
  5. reflect critically on their own experiences of gender and development in light of the concepts and methods introduced.
