This course will vary depending on who is teaching it in a given year. The central point of the course will be to use the research agenda of the academic staff to provide expanded opportunities for the study of comparative politics. Topic may include: parliaments, judicial politics, elite behavior, political parties, and media.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:
- Identify the concepts that influence the dynamics of comparative politics;
- Understand the sources of these concepts and their historical development;
- Use these concepts in order to critically research, analyse, and evaluate major issues in comparative politics; and
- Develop skills for research, argument, and analysis in order to to effectively communicate their own perspectives on key concepts and issues in comparative politics.

?The 2019 ‘special topic’ is public leadership, as examined in selected political theories from Machiavelli to Mill, and as exercised by ministers, legislators, bureaucrats, and civil society policy advocates.
