There are two sub-courses associated with DPsych Clinical Field Placement I

Clinical and Professional Placement I (Convenor: Mr Salih Ozgul) 3 hrs/week

Students need to have acquired a relevant body of clinical/professional knowledge and skills prior to commencing clinical/professional practice with clients under the supervision of an expert psychologist. It is vital that students demonstrate an initial competence in being able to use specific professional/clinical skills, techniques or methods through practice (e.g. through small group practice or role plays with peers and instructors) and have received feedback on performance (e.g. through self-observation and evaluation, peer and instructor feedback) prior to commencing clinical and professional practice.

The primary focus of this sub-course is for it to be experiential, giving students - through small group activities - further opportunities to explore, discuss, practice and receive feedback on various clinical and professional skills paralleling their academic teaching in order to help facilitate integration of academic learning into clinical and professional practice. The course will include an introduction to clinical and professional ethics and practice, clinical supervision, self-awareness and reflective practice, self-care, orientation to clinical field placements as well as opportunities to observe and practice clinical interviewing and assessment, report and case note writing and psychotherapy skills and interventions.

Professional Practice I (Convenor: Mr Salih Ozgul) 1 hr/fortnight

Students are required to attend Professional Practice meetings that are held throughout the year. In addition to case presentations there will be specific sessions considering important ethical issues in the practice of clinical psychology.
