This course continues to build on SPAN1001. The primary aim of this course is to develop further the students' reading, writing and conversational skills at an advanced beginner's level with Spanish as the only medium of instruction. Teaching is based on a communicative approach to language learning simulating real-life situations in the classroom as well as in the laboratory practises. Cultural aspects of the Hispanic World are introduced through the language classes.

- have a sufficient range of language to write short essays on a variety of topics, such as daily life with family and friends;
- express their views about a range of topics in writing and in conversations about such topics;
- read and understand short literary texts; and
- reflect on their learning experience.

Workload
130 hours of total student learning time made up from:a) 48 hours of contact over 12 weeks: 36 hours of communicative practise and learning in language tutorials and 12 hours by interactive grammar lectures; and
b) 82 hours of independent student research, reading and writing.
