Program Requirements
The Diploma of Liberal Arts requires the completion of 48 units, which must consist of:
42 units from completion of the following compulsory courses:
ANUC1101 Professional Communication
ANUC1104 Analysing the Social World: An Introduction to Social Psychology
ANUC1105 Introduction to International Relations: Foundations and Concepts
ANUC1107 Logic and Critical Thinking
ANUC1108 Terror to Terrorism: A History
ANUC1109 Close Encounters: How to Read Literature
ANUC1113 Digital Culture: Being Human in the Information Age
6 units from completion of courses from the following list:
ANUC1102 Culture and Human Diversity: Introducing Anthropology
ANUC1103 Global Citizen: Culture, Development and Inequality

Admission Requirements
Admission to the Diploma of Liberal Studies is based on meeting the ATAR 70 requirement or an equivalent rank derived from the following qualifications:
- An Australian year 12 qualification or international equivalent; OR
- An approved tertiary preparation course unless subsequent study is undertaken; OR
- Relevant work experience may be considered in determining eligibility.

Prerequisites
Students who meet the ATAR entry requirement for Bachelor level study are not eligible to enrol in the Diploma of Liberal Studies.

The ANU Diploma of Liberal Studies is an exciting new pathway into the Bachelor of Arts. Your transcript and testamur will be issued by the Australian National University.
Students successfully completing the Diploma will be admitted to the Bachelor of Arts program. Students completing the Diploma with no more than one fail or incomplete grade and with a GPA of at least 5.0 out of 7.0 will receive 48 units of credit status when they progress into the Bachelor of Arts. Students typically enroll in the most common majors and minors within the Bachelor of Arts. The transition from the Diploma to the Bachelor will allow students to complete their Bachelor of Arts after only two additional years of study for the following majors:
- Anthropology
- Criminology
- Development Studies
- English
- History
- International Relations
- Philosophy
- Political Science
- Sociology
Enrolment in other majors is permitted however students may be required to complete additional requisite courses to meet the rules of those majors. Note that enrolment in the flexible double degree is not available.
Students aspiring to study at ANU, and those the University seeks to reach, sometimes do not meet the minimum entry requirements. This may be due to restricted educational opportunity, geographic location, cultural or socio-economic expectations or restrictions, lack of choice, or personal factors such as individual or family circumstances that affect success. Other students may be very close to ANU entry requirements, but miss out on entry by a small margin. These students will benefit from a high support entry pathway to ANU.
The aim of the Diploma of Liberal Studies is to provide an opportunity for high quality and aspiring students to access ANU and to succeed in degree programs on completion. If you aspire to join the Bachelor of Arts but do not meet the ANU admission requirements, this program may provide you with an alternative pathway to your future at the ANU.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, students will have the skills and knowledge to:
- Identify problems relevant to the arts and social sciences, identify theories and find secondary sources relevant to those problems, propose solutions based on theory and the evaluation of those sources, and communicate those solutions both orally and in writing;
- Debate issues facing contemporary Australian society;
- Prepare academic texts that demonstrate appropriate academic practice in attribution and referencing; and
- Learning independently with some ability to evaluate their own output.
