This course is built around an individually negotiated, semester-long, small-scale project to be taken in any of the School of Art's studio discipline areas: Ceramics, Furniture, Glass, Gold and Silversmithing, Painting, Photography and Media Arts, Printmedia and Drawing, Sculpture or Textiles.
Students in this course carry out practice-led research on a project of their choice. The project proposal will be negotiated between the student and a proposed supervisor. Students must gain the formal agreement of a staff member to supervise them before enrolling in this course.

Other Information
The progressive outcomes of studio practice based courses are assessed by periodic critique plus review sessions and end-of-semester presentation to an assessment panel. Critique sessions will provide advice on work in progress in response to approved projects, reviews will provide indicative advice on a student's achievement, and the end of semester presentation will assess the final outcomes against the agreed requirements of course projects.

Workload
A total of 130 hours of project work, lectures, seminars, critiques, readings and research, including a minimum of 12 hours of direct contact with the supervisor. It is the joint responsibility of the student and supervisor to arrange times for face-to-face contact. The supervisor is normally only available for email or face-to-face consultation during teaching weeks of each semester.Requisite and Incompatibility
