This course will introduce students to topics of current interest, taking advantage of the expertise of visitors and staff.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:

  1. Plan and engage in a chosen Earth Science research topic;
  2. Keep accurate and detailed records of work undertaken, including literature review, lab or field work;
  3. Work constructively with active researchers on real research problems;
  4. Critically evaluate their own work and results, as well as results reported in the literature; and
  5. Communicate research concepts and contexts clearly and effectively both in writing and orally.

Workload

Students will work closely with their supervisor on the research topic and typically have 30 hours of supervised work, 30 hours of individual work and 70 hours to produce the oral presentation and the report.
