This course offers students the opportunity to complete intensive study in a topic relating to Indigenous peoples. The course content will vary from year to year following both changes in the discipline and the interests and expertise of teaching staff.

  1. Describe concepts and arguments arising from the field of Indigenous Studies;
  2. Evaluate those concepts and arguments to a level consistent with the expectations of the discipline; and,
  3. Explain issues, arguments, and responses through written and/or oral form.

Indicative Assessment

Tutorial and Wattle participation (10%) [LO 1, 2, 3]
Individual assessment tasks to a total of 4000 words which may include an essay and oral presentation and/or examination (90%) [LO1, 2, 3]

Workload

The mode of delivery for this course may be either in person or intensive:
 
In person: 130 hours of total student learning time made up from:
a) 36 hours of contact over 12 weeks: 24 hours of lectures and 12 hours of tutorials and tutorial-like activities.
b) 94 hours of independent student research, reading and writing.
 
Intensive: 130 hours of total student learning time made up from:
a) 36 hours of lectures and tutorials taught intensively.
b) 94 hours of independent student research, reading and writing.

Requisite and Incompatibility

To enrol in this course you must have completed 6 units of Indigenous Studies (INDG) courses, or with permission of the convener.

Assumed Knowledge

Students must have knowledge of Indigenous Studies research and debates.
