History: Twentieth Century aims to:
- develop students' ability to use historical concepts and evaluate historical sources;
- emphasise the relevance of critical thinking and sound methodology in pursuing professional, academic and historical inquiry; and
- provide students with the analytical skills to formulate and express logical arguments based on sound reasoning and evidence.
History: Twentieth Century examines major themes and events of the Twentieth Century, presenting history not as a series of dates but as a way of thinking about how and why the century emerged as it did. The course gives students the opportunity to develop skills in studying and interpreting historical events, using critical thinking and problem solving methodologies. It provides a solid grounding in history for those wishing to pursue undergraduate studies in a range of disciplines including history, politics, international relations, European studies, development studies and the social sciences.
