Program Requirements

The Bachelor of Criminology (Honours) requires the completion of 48 units, which must consist of:

30 units from completion of the following compulsory courses:

CRIM4001 Theories of Crime and Justice

THES4103 Thesis

18 units from completion of courses on the following list:

SOCR4001 Statistics for Social Scientists

SOCR4002 Survey Data Analysis

SOCR4003 Qualitative Research Analysis

SOCR4006 Online Research Methods

SOCR4008 Qualitative Social Research

SOCR4009 Quantitative Social Research

SOCY4010 Sociology Honours Methods Seminar

HONS4100 Final Honours Grade will be used to calculate the Class of Honours and the Mark. It will be calculated using the formula: S (mark x units) / S units, giving NCN and WN a nominal mark of zero

Admission Requirements

A Bachelor of Criminology Degree from ANU, or equivalent from another institution:

with a weighed average mark of at least 70 per cent, calculated from the 36 units of courses with highest final marks, excluding 1000-level courses, and listed in the Bachelor of Criminology

and with the written approval of an identified supervisor for THES4103 Thesis

Adjustment Factors

ANU offers rank adjustments for a number of adjustment factors, including for high achievement in nationally strategic senior secondary subjects and for recognition of difficult circumstances that students face in their studies. Rank adjustments are applied to Bachelor degree applicants with an ATAR at or above 70. The Bachelor of Criminology (Honours) degree exemplifies the ANU commitment to research-led education. If a person seeking acceptance into a Bachelor Honours program satisfies or exceeds the minimum requirement for admission to the Bachelor Honours program, the Delegated Authority is not obliged to admit the person to the program only because the person has satisfied the minimum requirement for admission.
