Through the soft logic of textiles concepts of time and space can be stretched, measured, made visible and ultimately shifted in exciting ways. This course uses textiles as a point of departure for installation, performance, drawing and object-based works. We will contextualise performative aspects of making, through both contemporary and historical readings of art and craft. From initial experimentation, students will develop their own spatial and temporal methods in mark, line and surface generation and learn how to best communicate these conceptual and material investigations as a resolved body of work.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:
- demonstrate creative exploration, experimentation and integration of ideas, materials and techniques, through class and individual projects;
- apply knowledge of the historical, cultural and theoretical contexts and contemporary practices relevant to textile and related mark-making techniques through development and execution of studio projects and independent experimentation, sampling and research; and
- demonstrate critical reflection and contextual understanding on own work and that of other artists/designers through note-taking in journal and in discussions.

Workload
130 hours of total student learning time made up from:
a) 48 hours of contact over 12 weeks consisting of lectures, tutorials, critiques and supervised studio practice; and
