Course has been adjusted for remote participation in 2021. Some on-campus activities are available. Attendance at these where possible is encouraged.

Industrial Experience provides students with exposure to current professional practice.

You are required to complete 60 days (420 hours) of work experience. Of those 60 days, 20 must be in a software engineering context, 20 must be a computer science related context, and the remaining 20 may be in any professional context.

Students must fulfill the requirements during the course of their degree; they normally enroll in COMP4800 in their final year and need to have satisfied the requirements by October in order to graduate at the ceremony the following December.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:

  1. describe and interpret a basic range of industrial workplace issues,
  2. describe and interpret the main responsibilities of a software engineer and
  3. describe the main working modes of a software engineer, such as client focus, communication skills, and teamwork practices
