Economic Evaluation of Health Programs (ECON8075)

This course considers a number of important issues in the theory of economic evaluation as it applies to health programs. Topics include: the welfare foundations of economic evaluation; welfarism vs extra-welfarism; QALYs and the equity-efficiency trade-off; valuing time- measurement and relevance; future costs, measuring health -related quality of life; social vs health care system perspective; the cost effectiveness plane and acceptability curves; vaccines and infectious diseases; policy issues- appraising the equality of economic evaluations, publication bias, and thresholds.
