The Group Research and Innovation Project (GRIP) is open to students from all academic Colleges.
The course gives ANU students from all disciplines the opportunity to collaborate on a project outside of their disciplinary offerings. Students can join an endorsed group project-based course or initiative and make a defined contribution equivalent to the scope and requirements of the Host project. Students will enhance the Host project through their disciplinary skill set, but will be assessed independently.
At the conclusion of the project, students submit a portfolio demonstrating the five areas of activity in the GRIP course learning outcomes against their contribution to the Host project.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:
- Synthesise knowledge and approaches to generate solutions to a complex interdisciplinary project.
- Develop, analyse, and critically evaluate alternative options in order to justify and generate deliverables in a real-world project.
- Apply management and organisational skills to produce time-sensitive deliverables as part of an interdisciplinary team.
- Demonstrate and reflect on leadership and creativity as an individual and within interdisciplinary team.
- Transparent transmission of decisions and solutions using appropriate media to professional and lay audiences.
Other Information
GRIP projects can be run in any semester or session, with endorsement from the Academic responsible for the Host Project and the GRIP Course Convenor.
Students will be required to undertake a VCUG3100 GRIP Induction prior to the start of the Host Project. Upon entry into the course, students will work with the Host Project Supervisor to generate a Project Agreement, and work towards completion of the agreement in the context of the project. This will likely involve meeting the Host Project expectations around deliverables, in addition the GRIP requirements.
Indicative Assessment
- Assessment tasks will vary depending on the Host Project and Supervisor, in consultation with the GRIP Course Convenor. Students who successfully complete the project requirements will receive a Course Requirements Satisfied (CRS) grade. As an indication: (0) [LO null]
- Project Agreement – due within 2 weeks of the commencement of the Host Project (20) [LO 3]
- Successful completion and evaluation of the requirements outlined in the Project Agreement during the defined project period (50) [LO 1,2,3,4,5]
- Successful completion and endorsement of a portfolio that demonstrates your contribution to the project in relation to the GRIP learning outcomes - due at the completion of the project (30) [LO 4]
The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. While the use of Turnitin is not mandatory, the ANU highly recommends Turnitin is used by both teaching staff and students. Workload
The expected workload will consist of approximately 130 hours which will include the GRIP induction, supervisor meetings, collaborative group project time and preparation for any assessment tasks.
