IDEC8002 introduces students to the main classes of models in modern macroeconomics. The course is aimed at providing students with a sound knowledge of modern macroeconomic theory, an ability to formulate and solve problems analytically, and a general appreciation of how policymakers can use the analysis in practice.The first half of the course will be devoted to growth models while the second half will deal with cyclical fluctuations, monetary and fiscal policy.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:
- Recognise key concepts, theories and core models of macroeconomics
- Apply these tools to the analysis of a variety of illustrations and examples, including empirical trends and implications for policymakers
- Explain macroeconomic concepts, graphically, mathematically and in writing, to a professional standard
- Evaluate real world events and data using macroeconomic analysis

Workload
Two hours of lectures and 1 hour of tutorials. Depending on prior background the student should expect to spend around 6-10 hours per week on the course material.
