This course builds on Advanced Persian A. It will develop various skills such as the capacity to use some idiomatic and conversational forms and ability to use them freely in speech; proficiency in written structures of advanced complexity and the capacity to use such structures clearly and accurately; interpreting messages of an advanced level of complexity occurring in a variety of audio-visual media and individual and group spoken forms. Students should become conversant in some aspects of advanced Persian syntax and morphology, the historical development of Persian language and literature up to the modern period including some examples of literary writing and translation of sophisticated classical and modern poetry and prose.
Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:
- comprehend concrete and abstract topic presented in different medium using knowledge of linguistic and cultural content to a proficient level;
- apply grammar, pronunciation and intonation accurately in a written and spoken medium for different contexts;
- write and translate texts of high difficulty between Persian and English with control of correct morphology, syntactical structures and punctuation in a legible and stylistically correct grammar;
- comprehend and engage in extended-length conversations using Persian at an advanced level; and
- compose extended text on a sophisticated topic of personal or academic interest with writing style at advanced level, correctly employing formal Persian style with minimal error.

The ANU is using Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. For additional information regarding Turnitin please visit the Academic Integrity . In rare cases where online submission using Turnitin software is not technically possible; or where not using Turnitin software has been justified by the Course Convener and approved by the Associate Dean (Education) on the basis of the teaching model being employed; students shall submit assessment online via ‘Wattle’ outside of Turnitin, or failing that in hard copy, or through a combination of submission methods as approved by the Associate Dean (Education). The submission method is detailed below.
Moderation of Assessment
Marks that are allocated during Semester are to be considered provisional until formalised by the College examiners meeting at the end of each Semester. If appropriate, some moderation of marks might be applied prior to final results being released.

Assessment Task 1

Three Written Assignments. 350 words each. 30% (10% each)
These 350-word assignment must cover topics related to one of the weekly lessons. These written assignments should contain vocabulary from the chosen lesson’s topic and must be submitted through the field in Wattle in weeks 3, 7, 10.
Assessment Task 2

Participation in Class and Conversation. 10%. Continuous.
Students should be prepared to carry a conversation on the given topics by using the vocabulary they have learned in the lesson. Students will be assessed in conversation classes through their participation in group discussions or one-on-one consecration with the lecturer of other students.
Assessment Task 3

Two Oral Presentation – 7-10 minutes each. 30% (15% each)
Students should pre-record and submit the Oral Assessments on Wattle. They should emulate and model their dialogue in formal Persian (must have at least two characters, self-performed) on conversations and topics of this course and the knowledge from earlier courses, trying to make the dialogue conversation or a telephone conversation. The topic of the conversation can be about an article in News Papers or radio broadcast of your choice. This oral assessment is an opportunity to improve your Persian speaking skills and to show off your speaking, pronunciation, and what you have learned. Each of these Oral assignments will be 15% of your final grade (30% in total). They should be submitted on Wattle in weeks 4. 8.
Assessment Task 4

Final Exam. 30%. October 30-31
This exam covers the grammatical points and vocabulary that students have learn during the semester, as well as the previous courses. Students may only attempt the exam once and any open responses will be automatically submitted at the conclusion of the three (3) hours, whether complete or not. Final exam will open on October 30 and close on October 31. There are 6 distinct questions in the exam, summing to 30 marks overall, each question having different weighting and value. All answers are to be written in Persian unless asked otherwise

For postgraduate students (PERS6006), submit your 600-700 word passage in Persian here by 4 November. You may write on any topic of your choosing (such as your own, broader research topic) but should discuss with the lecturer what you plan to write on in order to have a sign-off on the topic and seek support in preparing it. You may and probably will want to use material outside of the course vocabulary and content - some online dictionaries and other sources can be found in the recommended resources on Wattle Page.

You will be required to electronically sign a declaration as part of the submission of your assignment. Please keep a copy of the assignment for your records. Unless an exemption has been approved by the Associate Dean (Education) submission must be through Turnitin.For Persian language program, students do not need to use Turnitin for submitting their assignments. All assignments (written and oral) should be through the Course Website, Wattle.
For some forms of assessment (hand written assignments, art works, laboratory notes, etc.) hard copy submission is appropriate when approved by the Associate Dean (Education). Hard copy submissions must utilise the Assignment Cover Sheet. Please keep a copy of tasks completed for your records.
Individual assessment tasks may or may not allow for late submission. Policy regarding late submission is detailed below:
- Late submission not permitted. If submission of assessment tasks without an extension after the due date is not permitted, a mark of 0 will be awarded.
- Late submission permitted. Late submission of assessment tasks without an extension are penalised at the rate of 5% of the possible marks available per working day or part thereof. Late submission of assessment tasks is not accepted after 10 working days after the due date, or on or after the date specified in the course outline for the return of the assessment item. Late submission is not accepted for take-home examinations.
Accepted academic practice for referencing sources that you use in presentations can be found via the links on the Wattle site, under the file named “ANU and College Policies, Program Information, Student Support Services and Assessment”. Alternatively, you can seek help through the Students Learning Development website.
The week after the submission date of each assignment, Online students will receive written feedback, correction, and suggestions on their quiz and test results through the ‘Gradebook’ feature on the Wattle page.
Extensions and Penalties
Extensions and late submission of assessment pieces are covered by the Student Assessment (Coursework) Policy and Procedure. Extensions may be granted for assessment pieces that are not examinations or take-home examinations. If you need an extension, you must request an extension in writing on or before the due date. If you have documented and appropriate medical evidence that demonstrates you were not able to request an extension on or before the due date, you may be able to request it after the due date.
Resubmission of Assignments
Online students will receive written feedback on their quiz and test results and written feedback on submitted assignments and presentations through the ‘Gradebook’ feature on the Wattle course page. Students will be provided with the general feedback (verbally) after each written assignment and exam.
Distribution of grades policy
Academic Quality Assurance Committee monitors the performance of students, including attrition, further study and employment rates and grade distribution, and College reports on quality assurance processes for assessment activities, including alignment with national and international disciplinary and interdisciplinary standards, as well as qualification type learning outcomes.
Since first semester 1994, ANU uses a grading scale for all courses. This grading scale is used by all academic areas of the University.
