Program Requirements

The completion of a Master of Philosophy at the The National Centre for Public Awareness of Science normally takes two years of full-time study or part-time equivalent and is conducted in English. The award is made on the basis of independent research written up as a detailed thesis comprising of original written work, normally of up to 60,000 words, that is assessed by no fewer than two examiners. There is no mandatory coursework in this program. All students are required to complete Research Integrity Training in addition to other training requirements depending on the experimental needs of their research, and have access to a wide variety of other research training workshops, courses and seminars.

Admission Requirements

Admission to this Master of Philosophy program is normally granted to applicants holding a Bachelor degree, with an overall grade of distinction or higher, from an Australian University. Admission can be granted to applicants who demonstrate a background equivalent to these qualifications.

Domestic students

The annual indicative fee provides an estimate of the program tuition fees for international students and domestic students (where applicable). The annual indicative fee for a program is based on the standard full-time enrolment load of 48 units per year (unless the program duration is less than 48 units). Fees for courses vary by discipline meaning that the fees for a program can vary depending on the courses selected. Course fees are reviewed on an annual basis and typically will increase from year to year. The tuition fees payable are dependent on the year of commencement and the courses selected and are subject to increase during the period of study.
