SELT Survey Results

This course gives students a thorough grounding in the management of technology in an organisational context, placing particular emphasis on the Chief Information Officer perspective. The unit material complements applied student knowledge with a theoretical technology management foundation. Topics are presented from a textbook and, where appropriate, relevant readings from the contemporary literature are used to present competing points of view. Topics include the information system in the organisation, information system planning, enterprise systems in context, systems to support operations and management, policy development and directive management, and technology economics. Students are introduced to the practical aspects of this area through a series of organisational case studies.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:

  1. Operationally manage and coordinate IT systems within small, medium and large corporate enterprises
  2. Develop, implement and coordinate IT systems strategies, plans and management initiatives within small, medium and large corporate enterprises
  3. Manage the resourcing, financing, planning and control of corporate IT systems

Research-Led Teaching

Research-led Teaching and Instruction: Students are encouraged to engage with contemporary management studies and literature, and the IT Body of Knowledge as part of their course participation and learning activities. Practitioner-led Teaching and Instruction: Research led education is complemented with Practitioner led education within the course in the form of a strategically ‘pivoted’ ACS accredited capstone major team project, and the executive facilitated learning and assessment guidance workshops. Consistent with ACS accredited courses, these assessment and delivery artefacts are offered as opportunities for advanced learning through deeper engagement with executive experiences and behaviors in the context of IT professionalized practice. This is also presented as conduits for improving graduate employment search and placement potential.

Due to coronavirus disruptions within Wiley HE Australia (Brisbane, Queensland) supply chains, course textbook (12th Edition) is on ANU library request for purchase as an e-resource - further details will be provided on the Wattle course website as they become available.

Other Information

The conduct of the course will be subject to ANU Coronavirus safety protocols. In order to protect participants from the negative learning impacts resulting from untimely city-wide lockdowns and campus closures, the course will be delivered in composite modes of pre-recorded and face-to-face seminars, workshops and assessment forums, coupled with face-to-face, ZOOMBLAH and Zoom enabled consult options. There is a clear expectation that students will avail themselves of all presented learning modes and opportunities, noting that this ‘belt and brace’ course delivery structure is intended to ameliorate the impacts of administrative decisions taken outside the boundary of course instruction. Assessment Requirements

The ANU is using Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. For additional information regarding Turnitin please visit the ANU Online website Students may choose not to submit assessment items through Turnitin. In this instance you will be required to submit, alongside the assessment item itself, hard copies of all references included in the assessment item.

Moderation of Assessment

Marks that are allocated during Semester are to be considered provisional until formalised by the College examiners meeting at the end of each Semester. If appropriate, some moderation of marks might be applied prior to final results being released.

Participation

Participation is expected in all course activities and assessments. Seminars will be echo recorded/pre-recorded; workshops will be available both face-to-face and via zoom; consults will be available face-to-face and via zoom. In accordance with CBE Safety Guidelines and Protocols, and in order to enhance and assist student learning efforts in internationally remote and socially distanced environments, this course will use the Zoom Business Information Systems Learning Assistance and Help or ZoomBLAH Consult System. Following upgrades to the course lecturer ANU office IT systems, students can initiate 15-20 minute Zoom consults (using MS Outlook) during the consult periods noted in this summary, or a ZoomBLAH session.

Case Study Based ICT Team Project

Details of task: Assessment 3 is in the form of a team based ICT problem-solving project (including a strategy pivot, ie, a change in one or more elements of the strategy) for entry onto Wattle-Turnitin. Team members will need to complete specific sections of the report (identify section completed by team member).

Weightage: 50%

Individual assessment or Team task: Team assessment only. Teams of 2-3 members can commence mutually agreed formation in week 1 and must be finalized and the course lecturer advised by 1200hours Friday Week 6, 01 April 2022. After this date, the course lecturer will assign participants to teams with no changes to team membership allowed. A team sign up sheet will be hosted on Wattle.

Special note on team member workload: As part of the assessment work and submission, team members must confirm that they have contributed equitably to the project report, and diligently undertaken their assessment workload allocation. A fair and typical workload allocation for 2 and 3 member teams has been included in the assessment guide and placed on the course Wattle site.

Online Submission

The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. While the use of Turnitin is not mandatory, the ANU highly recommends Turnitin is used by both teaching staff and students. Hardcopy Submission

For some forms of assessment (hand written assignments, art works, laboratory notes, etc.) hard copy submission is appropriate when approved by the Associate Dean (Education). Hard copy submissions must utilise the Assignment Cover Sheet. Please keep a copy of tasks completed for your records.

Late Submission

Late submission of assessment tasks without an extension are penalised at the rate of 5% of the possible marks available per working day or part thereof (ie, Assessment 2 non-extension penalty is minus 2.4 marks per day). Late submission of assessment tasks is not accepted after 10 working days after the due date. Late submission is not accepted for short reflections and team projects (Assessment 1 and Assessment 3).


All requests for extensions to assessment in RSM courses must be submitted to the RSM School Office with a completed application form and supporting documentation. Extensions and Penalties

Extensions and late submission of assessment pieces are covered by the Student Assessment (Coursework) Policy and Procedure The Course Convener may grant extensions for assessment pieces that are not examinations or take-home examinations. If you need an extension, you must request an extension in writing on or before the due date. If you have documented and appropriate medical evidence that demonstrates you were not able to request an extension on or before the due date, you may be able to request it after the due date.

Resubmission of Assignments

You are allowed to resubmit your assignments before the specific deadlines. Any submission done after the deadline will be considered as a late submission and the above listed penalty conditions will apply.


Privacy Notice

The ANU has made a number of third party, online, databases available for students to use. Use of each online database is conditional on student end users first agreeing to the database licensor’s terms of service and/or privacy policy. Students should read these carefully. In some cases student end users will be required to register an account with the database licensor and submit personal information, including their: first name; last name; ANU email address; and other information. In cases where student end users are asked to submit ‘content’ to a database, such as an assignment or short answers, the database licensor may only use the student’s ‘content’ in accordance with the terms of service — including any (copyright) licence the student grants to the database licensor. Any personal information or content a student submits may be stored by the licensor, potentially offshore, and will be used to process the database service in accordance with the licensors terms of service and/or privacy policy. If any student chooses not to agree to the database licensor’s terms of service or privacy policy, the student will not be able to access and use the database. In these circumstances students should contact their lecturer to enquire about alternative arrangements that are available.

Distribution of grades policy

Academic Quality Assurance Committee monitors the performance of students, including attrition, further study and employment rates and grade distribution, and College reports on quality assurance processes for assessment activities, including alignment with national and international disciplinary and interdisciplinary standards, as well as qualification type learning outcomes. Since first semester 1994, ANU uses a grading scale for all courses. This grading scale is used by all academic areas of the University.
