If you have already passed Mongolian 2 (MNGL1003), then this course is for you. Join our team of expert Mongolian teachers who will guide you to improve your language proficiency to low-intermediate level live from Mongolia! This course aims to improve the learner's command of written and spoken Mongolian with a strong focus on the practical comprehension skills needed to participate in everyday communication. Our textbook is all online including weekly vocabulary lists, audio and video files as well as cultural notes. Based on the text and other materials we will talk about a series of themes including ethnic diversity, culture, cultural events, informal employment, holiday and studying abroad. The combination of weekly real time meetings and online materials allows you to continue your language learning in a flexible and dynamic way.
Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:
- Use correctly all additional 600 vocabulary items introduced in the course textbook.
- Demonstrate an understanding of complex phrase and sentence structures, using these structure to converse and write passages on a range of non-technical topics, and to read relatively long Mongolian texts.
- Communicate about a variety of topics including discussion of employment, culture and education.
- Demonstrate knowledge of modern Mongolian culture through appropriate linguistic expression and in a variety of modes (oral, written, formal, informal, etc.)

Assessment RequirementsThe ANU is using Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. For additional information regarding Turnitin please visit the ANU Online website Students may choose not to submit assessment items through Turnitin. In this instance you will be required to submit, alongside the assessment item itself, hard copies of all references included in the assessment item.
Moderation of AssessmentMarks that are allocated during Semester are to be considered provisional until formalised by the College examiners meeting at the end of each Semester. If appropriate, some moderation of marks might be applied prior to final results being released.

Weekly ongoing oral test. Students are strongly encouraged to attend the weekly face to face online tutorial meeting. A weekly ongoing oral participation will take place. No make up test is allowed, but the lowest 3 marks are dropped from your final result (including the 0 mark which you get when you miss a class).

Questions will be from the contents taught before the teaching break. It will be held on 31 March 2021. The questions will be accessible from 7am and submitted at 1pm on the same day.

Hardcopy SubmissionFor some forms of assessment (hand written assignments, art works, laboratory notes, etc.) hard copy submission is appropriate when approved by the Associate Dean (Education). Hard copy submissions must utilise the Assignment Cover Sheet. Please keep a copy of tasks completed for your records.
No submission of assessment tasks without an extension after the due date will be permitted. Late submission of quiz tasks and project without an extension are penalised at the rate of 5% of the possible marks available per working day or part thereof. Late submission is not accepted for take-home examinations.

Extensions and PenaltiesExtensions and late submission of assessment pieces are covered by the Student Assessment (Coursework) Policy and Procedure The Course Convener may grant extensions for assessment pieces that are not examinations or take-home examinations. If you need an extension, you must request an extension in writing on or before the due date. If you have documented and appropriate medical evidence that demonstrates you were not able to request an extension on or before the due date, you may be able to request it after the due date.
Distribution of grades policyAcademic Quality Assurance Committee monitors the performance of students, including attrition, further study and employment rates and grade distribution, and College reports on quality assurance processes for assessment activities, including alignment with national and international disciplinary and interdisciplinary standards, as well as qualification type learning outcomes. Since first semester 1994, ANU uses a grading scale for all courses. This grading scale is used by all academic areas of the University.
