Building upon the skills developed in Mongolian 1, Mongolian 2 introduces students to more complex grammatical points used in everyday communication and supports them in developing the ability to speak and write about the events of daily life. Join our team of expert Mongolian teachers who will guide you to improve your language proficiency to the next level live from Mongolia! Our textbook is all online including weekly vocabulary lists, audio and video files as well as cultural notes. The combination of weekly real time meetings and online materials allows you to continue your language learning in a flexible and dynamic way. In addition, students will be introduced to the basic registers of formal and informal language relevant to Mongolian cultural and social situations.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:

  1. Use correctly all additional 550 vocabulary items introduced in the course textbook.
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of the grammatical features necessary for reading and composing Mongolian short texts in a range of simple genres, such as letters.
  3. Conduct longer conversations and produce longer written descriptions of everyday events, such as transportation; employ the basic registers of formal and informal language relevant to a range of social situations.
  4. Demonstrate an awareness of modern Mongolian culture and the impact of culture on language production.

Other Information

On successful completion of this course, students will have the knowledge and skills to engage at an Advanced Beginner level of Mongolian.

Students with native speaker proficiency (may include cognate languages and dialects) must review the language proficiency assessment site and contact the CAP Student Centre for appropriate enrolment advice. Students with previous “language experience or exposure” are required to undertake a language proficiency assessment to ensure enrolment at the most appropriate level.

Relevant past experience includes:

-       Previous study of the language (both formal and informal, for example but not limited to, at school, or, home, or through online activities, etc.)

-       Being exposed to the language in childhood via a family member or friend

-       Travel or living in a country where the language is spoken

-       The language being spoken in your home (even if you do not speak it yourself)

Students who are not sure if they need to undertake a language proficiency assessment should seek advice from the course or language convenor. Students who intentionally misrepresent their language proficiency level may be investigated under the Academic Misconduct Rule 2015 as having failed to comply with assessment directions and having sought unfair advantage. This may results in a penalty such as reduced grades or failure of the course.

Students are not permitted to enrol in a language course below one that they have already successfully completed, except with permission of the language and/or course convenor.
