The Graduate Diploma in Professional Psychology requires completion of 48 units, which must consist of:




PSYC8410 Foundations of Professional Psychology

PSYC8411 Research Methods and Statistics in Professional Psychology  

PSYC8413 Psychological Assessment   

PSYC8421 Psychological Interventions

PSYC8422 Contextualizing Professional Psychology

PSYC8412 Professional Psychology Research Project (18 units which must be taken during the first year - as 6 units in first semester and as 12 units in second semester)

Students who successfully complete one year of the Master of Professional Psychology and then decide not to continue with the program, are able to graduate with a Graduate Diploma of Professional Psychology.

The one-year graduate diploma program includes coursework on psychological assessment, interventions and professional skills and a group research project.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate appropriate interpersonal communication and interview skills in situations appropriate to psychological practice and research 

  2. Demonstrate basic assessment strategies in situations appropriate to psychological practice and knowledge of psychometric theory and principles of the construction, cultural considerations, implementation and interpretation of some of the more widely used standardised psychological test instruments

  3. Explain how basic psychological intervention strategies can be applied across a range of contexts 

  4. Investigate a substantive individual research question relevant to the discipline of psychology.
