IMU Education has established a medical university known as the International Medical University in Malaysia with the view of collaborating with the ANU to offer a joint programme in medical education which is to be conducted partly at IMU and partly at the ANU Medical School.
The programme will entail a two part medical course, the first comprising of a 3 1/2 year course leading to the award of Bachelor of Medical Sciences will be completed at IMU and the second comprising of a 2 year course to be conducted at the ANU.
In order to equip and prepare students for Year 3 of the MChD programme, the Non Award IMU Clinical Experience Bridging Course will introduce students to general concepts in communications skills, clinical diagnostic skills and procedural skills.

- An understanding of the therapeutic nature of the patient-doctor relationship and the impact on that relationship of the individual characteristics of both patient and doctor.
- The ability to listen and to identify concerns of patients, families and carers and to respond to those concerns using whatever means are necessary for effective communication.
- The ability to accurately and sensitively elicit and interpret clinical symptoms and signs and to use this information to guide further investigations.
- The ability to perform certain basic clinical procedures, particularly those which are commonly or vital in life-threatening situations.
- An understanding of the role of evidence-based medicine in their daily practice, whether this be with individual patients, populations or both.
- Appropriate skills in record taking, organisation and management of information and the use of information technology.
Indicative Assessment
Assessment will include Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs) and Cllinical Excercises on the ward.
OSCE - Objective Structured Clinical Examination
This examination assesses your ability to communicate with patients, performa a physical examination or a clinical procedure and describe physical signs of disease. Typically the examination includeds a number of stations each of which comprises a specific task. An assessor will observe your examination technique and question you about the physical signs according to defined criteria.
Clinical Exercises
These are foundation clinical skills that will be taught and assessed during clinical days. They will provide you with an opportunity to develop individual aspects of your clinical skills for informal feedback.
The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. While the use of Turnitin is not mandatory, the ANU highly recommends Turnitin is used by both teaching staff and students.
