In this course, students will conduct in-depth study of a special topic in Classics related to the research interests of staff members in the Centre for Classical Studies. Special attention will be paid to the analysis of primary source evidence, modern scholarly debates, and methodological and theoretical approaches.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:
- review, evaluate and apply the types of evidence and approaches used by Classical scholars;
- engage critically with arguments by modern scholars;
- develop and enhance skills in close reading, marshaling evidence, and presenting original arguments both verbally and in writing to graduate standard;
- continue training in some of the key methodological approaches used by historical, literary and philological scholars in their study of Greek and Roman antiquity; and
- present arguments orally in discussions and presentations.
