Management Essentials Specialisation

Graduates with a specialisation in Management Essentials will learn to combine knowledge and skills relating to essential areas of advanced management practice.

Graduate Knowledge

Graduates with a specialisation in Management Essentials will have a coherent body of knowledge of leadership, change management, organisational behaviour, entrepreneurship, innovation, and strategy, which will form the basis for independent lifelong learning.

Graduate Skills

Graduates with a specialisation in Management Essentials will have:

  • Evidence-based skills for best practice in the management of people and organisations, resulting from exploration of a range of organisational behaviour theories;
  • Cognitive skills to exercise theoretical foundations and context within which innovations and new ventures contribute to economic activity and an introduction to the tools and frameworks used to identify new venture opportunities and potential innovations;
  • Evidence-based skills for best practice in strategic management, including business policy and corporate strategy, resulting from exploration of a range of strategic management theories; and,
  • Cognitive skills to demonstrate leadership and organisational change theories and frameworks, with opportunities to develop skills and practices for effectively achieving personal, interpersonal, and organisational goals.

In addition to these, students will also develop:

  • Cognitive skills to review, analyse, consolidate and explore knowledge, and insights into relevant applications;
  • Technical skills to demonstrate an understanding of the fundamental applications with insight and creativity;
  • Cognitive skills to exercise critical thinking, creative problem solving and evidence led judgement in recognising, and addressing problems; and,
  • Communication skills to present concise and coherent exposition of knowledge, and to convey ideas in an appropriate language for business audiences.

Application of Knowledge and Skills

Graduates with a specialisation in Management Essentials will demonstrate the application of knowledge and skills

  • with initiative and judgement in planning, problem solving and decision making in professional practice and/or scholarship;
  • to adapt knowledge and skills in diverse contexts; and,
  • with responsibility and accountability for own learning and professional practice and in collaboration with others within broad parameters.
