This is an advanced research course that offers students an individualised course of study under the guidance of a supervisor. It involves in-depth reading, analysis and writing in topic areas directly relevant to their thesis research. The course topics and readings are to be negotiated by the supervisor and the student, and the course will have a particular focus on academic skills development. Students undertake in-depth reading, analysis and writing on topic areas relevant to thesis research under the guidance of their supervisor.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:
- develop a firm grounding in the methods and design the particuar research discipline
- critically analyse, reflect and closely examine their own project
- develop the ability to critically engage in meaningful discussions about the strengths and problems of their research topic/area
- further develop the ability to effectively critique and write about their research topic/area

Workload
130 hours of total student learning time made up from:
a) 12 hours of contact over 12 weeks with supervisor
b) 118 hours of independent student research, reading and writing.
