Applied Cybernetics Professional Experience Placement gives the student exposure to applying approaches and skills learned in CYBN6001, CYBN6002, and CYBN8001 in a professional environment. Students will be embedded within an industry, community, government, start-up or academic organisation as a practitioner of Applied Cybernetics to contribute to a project related to cybernetic systems.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:

  1. Practice the main responsibilities of a practitioner of Applied Cybernetics for safe and sustainable systems analysis and development 
  2. Advocate for a cybernetics approach to systems as a practitioner of Applied Cybernetics
  3. Apply relevant methodologies and project management skills to meet placement objectives 
  4. Enhance proficiency in both verbal and written communication, applying these competencies effectively within the context of a project 

Work Integrated Learning

Placements

This course provides students with work-based experience of the conceptual and practical approaches of Applied Cybernetics. They will become practitioners of Applied Cybernetics who can carefully examine new and emerging technological systems, the building blocks they are made from, and the questions they raise for human society and our ecosystems.

The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. Workload

Students are expected to attend the professional practice placement for an equivalent of 7 hours per day for 20 days.

Requisite and Incompatibility

To enrol in this course you must be enrolled in the Master of Applied Cybernetics or Master of Applied Cybernetics (Advanced).

You will need to contact the School of Cybernetics to request a permission code to enrol in this course.

This work experience course builds on and apply the learning outcomes of CECS6001/ CYBN6001; CECS6002/CYBN6002 and CECS8001/CYBN8001.
