The Advanced Spanish Studies minor is for students who already have a high level of competence in Spanish. It aims to deepen students’ knowledge and critical understanding of Spanish language and culture, while continuing to improve their fluency in the language, in reading and listening comprehension as well as oral and written expression. The courses included in this Advanced Minor allow students to examine in detail linguistic, cultural, social, literary and historical aspects of the Spanish-speaking world.

Learning Outcomes

  1. communicate proficiently and confidently in Spanish;
  2. identify the structure and uses of Spanish;
  3. demonstrate an understanding of the cultural and linguistics aspects of Spanish language and societies and their socio-historical context;
  4. construct a schema of the connections between the Spanish language and its geographical, social and cultural origins; and
  5. recognise the importance of intercultural communication.

Requirements

All Language Studies (LANG) courses must have a Course Topic of Spanish to be included in this minor.

This minor requires the completion of 24 units, which must include:
