Graduates with a specialisation in Leadership will learn to combine foundational knowledge of core theory and best practices in Leadership, which will form the basis for independent lifelong learning.

It will prepare graduates for careers such as (but not limited to):

  • Team Leader
  • APS6 / EL1 / EL2
  • Aspiring and Executive leaders across any discipline


Graduate Knowledge

Graduates with a specialisation in Leadership will have a coherent body of knowledge of the fundamental principles of leadership, and an understanding of conceptual frameworks as a basis for future discovery in education and practice.


Graduate Skills

Graduates with a specialisation in Leadership will have:

  • Interpersonal skills for managing, motivating, and inspiring others;
  • Intrapersonal skills for building resilience, and understanding self;
  • Ethical and moral decision making ability;
  • Management skills such as emotional intelligence;
  • Ability to build personal leadership identity;
  • Ability for leading and managing change;
  • Networking skills; and,
  • Evidence-based decision making skills.


In addition to these, students will also develop:

  • Cognitive skills to review, analyse, consolidate and explore knowledge, and insights into relevant applications;
  • Technical skills to demonstrate an understanding of the fundamental applications with insight and creativity;
  • Cognitive skills to exercise critical thinking, creative problem solving and evidence led judgement in recognising, and addressing problems; and,
  • Communication skills to present concise and coherent exposition of knowledge, and to convey ideas in an appropriate language for business audiences.


Application of Knowledge and Skills

Graduates with a specialisation in Leadership will demonstrate the application of knowledge and skills

  • with initiative and judgement in planning, problem solving and decision making in professional practice and/or scholarship;
  • to adapt knowledge and skills in diverse contexts; and,
  • with responsibility and accountability for own learning and professional practice and in collaboration with others within broad parameters.

Other Information

Note that courses can not be double counted towards multiple specialisations. Students who wish to complete the Management Essentials Specialisation are advised that:

  • you can't count MGMT8270 towards the Leadership specialisation, and
  • instead will need to select another course from the Study Requirements list electives OR seek permission from the RSM School Office to study an alternative course.

Requirements

This specialisation requires the completion of 24 units, which must consist of:


18 units from completion of the following compulsory courses:

MGMT7060 - Thought Leadership in Organisations (6 units)

MGMT8061 - High Performance Teams (6 units)

MGMT8063 - Leading for Social Impact (6 units)


6 units from the completion of a course from the following list:

MGMT7153 - Core Leadership (6 units)

MGMT8270 - Leading People and Change (6 units)

VCPG6003 - Leadership and Influence in a Complex World (6 units)
