Course first offered: 2026. Only available to students in the Bachelor of Philosophy, Neuroscience, and Psychology.

To understand phenomena like memory, consciousness, bodily sensations, or navigation, we must approach them from multiple disciplinary perspectives. The course will cover a single topic each year from the perspective of philosophy, neuroscience, and psychology, with teaching input from staff and visitors to the three cognate disciplines. The topic and format of the course will depend on the availability and interests of staff in given years. Each year's topic will be the focus of transdisciplinary inquiry, focusing on how methods in one discipline can be used to make progress in the questions of another.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:

  1. Examine a core topic at the intersection of philosophy, neuroscience, and psychology.
  2. Apply discipline-specific skills to transdisciplinary research in both laboratory and written settings.
  3. Locate, evaluate and use information appropriately in the research process.
  4. Critique other researchers' concepts, methods, and results.
  5. Present and analyse experimental results clearly and effectively.
