The course enables students to undertake a research project that builds upon their coursework knowledge. It focuses on conducting original research under academic supervision to develop independent research skills and gain practical experience.

Before enrolment, students will negotiate the details of the project with their supervisor/s and obtain approval from the school. The research project may be carried out within a research group or in collaboration with an industry or government organisation. The project will focus on topics related to Epidemiology and Population Health or related areas of interest.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:

  1. Propose, develop, and engage in an independent and sustained investigation on a chosen research topic.
  2. Systematically engage with and critique relevant sources, theory, and concepts to situate the research project in the broader literature.
  3. Select, apply, and extend relevant quantitative and/or qualitative methodologies to collect and evaluate data and draw appropriate evidence-based conclusions.
  4. Work collaboratively and constructively with researchers and practitioners to appropriate ethical standards of conduct.
  5. Communicate research concepts and contexts clearly and effectively both in writing and orally.
