This course introduces students to the various business environments & models in the era of digital transformation. It further develops skills in formulating strategies that correspond to the current business context. It provides opportunities for students to apply these skills within existing organisations. This course uses an inquiry-based approach to engage students in the process of formulating questions and investigating issues that are relevant to the digital business. The course also has a strong skills-based focus, aimed at enhancing the research and communications skills students need in their future careers as researchers and professionals.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:

  1. Distinguish between the different concepts and theories of management related to digital business;
  2. Establish the roles and functions of managers within organisations;
  3. Recognise the challenges of managing dynamic and complex organisations in a global context;
  4. Consider how external environments impact on organisations and business models;
  5. Recognise the social and ethical implications of management decisions in both domestic and international contexts;
  6. Reflect on the emerging evidence about changing nature of management, institutions, markets, and impact on business models; and
  7. Generate business models appropriate for technology-enabled organisations.

This course is only available to students enrolled in the MDTE - Master of Digital Transformation & Entrepreneurship and studying in Zhejiang, China.

Typical assessments may include, but is not restricted to: in-class exercises, written and oral assignments, quizzes, examinations, group project tasks, oral presentation, and other assessment deemed appropriate to show attainment of the learning outcomes set for the course. Workload

Students taking this course are expected to commit 130 hours to complete the work, which will typically include class attendance, course reading, research, writing and assessment work.

This course is offered in intensive delivery mode as a continuous block over a shorter period of time.

Requisite and Incompatibility

To enrol in this course you must be enrolled in the MDTE - Master of Digital Transformation & Entrepreneurship program. You are not able to enrol in this course if you previously completed BUSI7280 - Managing in a Global Context.

You will need to contact the Research School of Management to request a permission code to enrol in this course.
