Work integrated learning is the core component of the Special Industry Project course. The course offers postgraduate students across the university the opportunity to work in a small cross-disciplinary team and solve a business problem presented by a live business client. The academic component of the course comprises a series of master classes delivered by academic experts and industry professionals. Under the supervision of the course convenor and the support of designated industry mentors, students will apply their theoretical knowledge in practice by working on innovative solutions that address the specified business issue from a live business client located in Australia or overseas. The Special Industry Project course facilitates students’ development of professional skills important for their job market readiness.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:
- Apply relevant discipline-based theoretical knowledge and skills to solve a transdisciplinary business problem in an advanced and integrated manner;
- Research, analyse and evaluate in-depth diverse bodies of knowledge to propose evidence-based and practical solutions to the real-world business problems encountered by the client organisation;
- Work effectively and professionally within a transdisciplinary team to develop practical solutions to a specified business problem;
- Apply advanced communication strategies to communicate effectively with peers and business professionals;
- Construct a research-informed professional industry report that demonstrates originality and academic rigor;
- Critically reflect upon the value of lifelong learning processes provided through the project experience.

Students must meet the prerequisite requirements to be eligible for the course. Those who do not, including exchange students, should contact the CBE Student Services team (info.cbe@anu.edu.au) to request a permission code for enrolment.
Students unable to enrol due to the enrolment cap should also contact CBE Student Services, as this cap may be expanded.

The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. Workload
Student are expected to commit up to 130 hours towards the completion of this course, across the following activities:
- Project orientation
- 2 networking events
- Master classes: 5 relevant topics identified by the course convenor in consultation with the live business client and the student teams
- Regular meetings with industry mentor
- Project commitment
- Individual assessment of project team and individual reflection on project experience
