This course aims to bring the students of the master of peace and conflict studies in close contact with practitioners. This course is structured around a series of seminars with different practitioners, giving the opportunity of students to learn from the practitioners' experience. The course will be structured around 3 key lectures across the semester, covering specific themes related to peace and conflict studies (i.e. gender, migration, statebuilding, atrocity prevention) with a specific focus on the Asia-Pacific region. Practitioners will be identified by the course convenor and the teaching team at the Bell School, making use of our list of contacts in Canberra. We will also seek students' input on preferred themes and potentially individuals to invite through a quick survey at the beginning of the semester.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:
- Interact with leading practitoners in the field of peace and conflict
- Actively apply knowledge (empirical and conceptual) in discussion, debate, and questioning
- Develop skills to engage with practitioners (including hosting, moderating, questioning, and listening).
- Reflect on the perspectives of practitioner, and how those relate to their own opinions and understanding of peace and conflict as a real world and embodied set of experiences and practices.

Workload
Total contact hours of 6 hours (3 x 2 hours per seminar). Total workload for the course is 36 hours, including associated preparation (indicative readings will be sent to students prior to the lectures), independent study (for the reflection piece) and assessment time.
