The Art History and Curatorial Studies major combines the discipline of art history with the study of how it applies to the public sphere and the practice of curating.
The major locates the study of art, design, visual and material culture in a range of visual, historical, social, cultural, political, and theoretical contexts. You will learn the latest methods for the critical analysis of art and design. These are applied to case studies drawn from art across the world, both historical and contemporary, with the opportunity to participate in intensive courses taught overseas.
Learning Outcomes
- apply critical thinking in the analysis of visual, historical, social, political, and theoretical aspects of art, design, visual and material culture;
- identify the latest ideas in art and design and how they intersect with the public sphere and the practice of curating;
- evaluate the structures and practices of public cultural institutions through active engagement with the GLAM sector; and
- critically examine the historiography of the discipline to understand the key approaches to art history and curatorial studies today.
