Training in research approaches and scholarly research and writing in Gender, Media and Cultural Studies; development of skills and support in writing Doctoral dissertations in the fields of Gender, Media and Cultural Studies.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:
- Demonstrate expert understanding of existing knowledge within a particular field of culture, history, or language in Australia, Asia and/or the Pacific, and engage independently in critical reflection, synthesis, and evaluation of this knowledge, including in broader disciplinary and interdisciplinary contexts.
- Develop the ability to formulate a research program and undertake systematic investigation within a particular field of culture, history, or language in the relevant region.
- Acquire the expert technical skills needed to carry out research in a particular field of culture, history, or language in the relevant region.
- Demonstrate the ability to critically analyse and evaluate data related to a particular field of culture, history, or language in the relevant region thereby generating original contributions to knowledge.
- Acquire high-level communication skills, orally and in writing, in order to: explain and critique theoretical propositions, methodologies and conclusions; present original research for external examination against international standards; and convey results to peers and the community.
- Demonstrate the capacity to manage complex ethical and professional issues, including awareness of sensitive issues particular to culture, history, or language in the relevant region.

Fieldwork
Thesis Course code is used for enrolment purposes only. Fieldwork and Projects will form a part of the degree.
Indicative Assessment
- The Doctor of Philosophy requires the submission and successful examination of a thesis of up to 100,000 words. (100) [LO 1,2,3,4,5,6]
