SCOM3005 requires permission to enrol (convener approval).
This is a shell course that allows delivery of selected science communication curriculum topics to groups of students over intensive or semester long formats. This will provide students with study opportunities not covered in other courses taught by the Australian National Centre for the Public Awareness of Science or elsewhere in the University. The content of this course may vary from year to year.

Depending on the topic, students may be required to take part in lectures, workshops, tutorials, seminars, discussion groups or other activities. Assessment will differ between each offering, and will include at least two assessment activities.
This course may be co-taught with postgraduate students; when co-taught it is assessed separately.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:
- Engage with, synthesise and employ key concepts in the science communication topic taught in this course.
- Identify relevant theory and concepts, relate these to appropriate methodologies and evidence, analyse data using appropriate methods and tools, and draw appropriate conclusions.
- Critically evaluate their own work and results, as well as published research.
- Communicate research concepts and contexts clearly and effectively both in writing and orally.

The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. Workload
Approximately 130 hours (per 6 units of enrolment) of total student learning time, which may be made up of lectures, workshops, tutorials, seminars, discussion groups, reading and writing or other activities.

Assumed Knowledge
Students are expected to have some experience in and knowledge of:
- history, theory, and principles of science communication.
- the practice of science communication, both written and verbal, as well as experience supporting this communication through props, visual aids, multimedia products, and so on.
