All students undertaking an Honours program in the ANU Research School of Management are required to complete a 24 unit thesis.
THES4208 is the honours thesis course for the Research School of Management, focusing on the discipline areas of:
- Corporate Sustainability
- International Business
- Management
- Marketing
Students in this course carry out advanced research on a question of their choice. Their topic is agreed with their thesis supervisor. Students design and implement a project to answer their research question, to place the answer in the context of an intellectual tradition, and to communicate it clearly to others.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:
- Demonstrate an advanced and integrated understanding of theoretical frameworks, empirical evidence, and disciplinary debates, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledges and methodologies as vital epistemological and ethical perspectives
- Problematise a significant issue within the discipline through critical engagement with theory, context, and evidence, and translate this into coherent, researchable questions for systematic investigation
- Design an ethically grounded research approach using appropriate methodologies and methods that may integrate Western and Indigenous ways of knowing (where relevant)
- Critically analyse acquired evidence with intellectual independence, methodological rigour, and reflexivity throughout the research process
- Synthesise findings through a sustained scholarly argument that extends disciplinary knowledge and demonstrates theoretical, practical, and societal awareness, culminating in a well-structured written thesis.
Indicative Assessment
- The thesis will be completed in stages (e.g. proposal, literature review, thesis, and oral presentation) that may be marked separately or as a single final thesis (to be confirmed with your supervisor and course convener). Discipline experts will examine the resulting thesis in the Research School of Management. (100) [LO 1,2,3,4,5]
