The Private and Commercial Law specialisation provides postgraduate students with advanced insight into the increasingly complex legal environments in which individuals, businesses and corporations operate.

Through a broad selection of specialised courses, students examine private and commercial law across domestic and international contexts, including regulatory design, market governance and commercial dispute resolution. The specialisation fosters in-depth legal analysis, critical engagement with policy and doctrine, and advanced research and writing capability.

The specialisation is highly flexible, allowing students to tailor their studies to their professional interests or career objectives, whether in private practice, the private sector, government or regulatory roles.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Develop and apply specialist legal knowledge to critically analyse complex private and commercial law problems, concepts and theories, incorporating social, comparative or transdisciplinary approaches.
  2. Research, evaluate and synthesise case law, legislation and scholarly literature to develop solutions to private and commercial law problems.
  3. Critically reflect on and communicate theoretical, policy and practical issues in private and commercial law to a range of audiences.
