This study tour is designed to provide an opportunity for students to participate in learning abroad opportunities and to develop a deeper understanding of the region. The content of the study tour will vary depending on the year. Further details on the content of the study tour, the course convenor, and the assessments will be provided ahead of time. Please note that only students enrolled in a Master degree offered at the Coral Bell School can enrol on this course. Spots are limited and will be offered on a first come first serve basis (via the usual course enrolment platform).


Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:

  1. Develop a deep understanding of the historical, political, structural, cultural and social forces that have shaped the country/region.
  2. Critically evaluate contemporary political, economic, social and environmental challenges in the Asia Pacific region.
  3. Apply relevant theoretical frameworks and disciplinary concepts to address real-world challenges and opportunities encountered during the field trip.
  4. Develop advanced field research skills, including observation, data collection, engagement with local actors, and reflective analysis in cross-cultural environments.
  5. Demonstrate advanced skills in critical thinking, reading, writing and oral presentation.
  6. Engage with a variety of practitioners and local perspectives across cultural and social differences in respectful and informed ways.

The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. Workload

The workload will vary based on the convenor and study tour but will follow the standard workload for a 6 unit course, which is 130 hours in total.

Inherent Requirements

This is a study tour so students must be able to travel domestically and internationally. If visas are required, they will be the responsibility of the student.

Please note that only students enrolled in a Master degree offered at the Coral Bell School can take this course.
