This course provides a broad exploration of the psychological factors that contribute to individual and collective wellbeing within organizational settings. Tailored for professionals, managers, and individuals interested in fostering positive work environments, this course delves into the principles of workplace psychology, stress management, resilience, and strategies for enhancing overall mental health. Students will gain insights into the impact of such things as organizational culture, leadership styles, and interpersonal dynamics on psychological wellbeing. Through a combination of theoretical frameworks, empirical studies, and case analyses, this course equips students with the knowledge and skills necessary to promote a healthy and supportive workplace culture. Topics include stress reduction techniques, work-life balance, communication strategies, and the role of leadership in fostering a psychologically healthy and productive work environment. Ultimately, the course aims to provide students with the knowledge and skills to facilitate workplace relations that foster the psychological wellbeing of employees.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:
- Understand and critique theoretical concepts and the empirical evidence for the impact of mental health and wellbeing on work performance, culture, and satisfaction.
- Display and adapt skills for detecting and responding to mental health problems in the workplace, identifying the antecedents and consequences of mental (ill)health and (non)wellbeing, and developing workplace programs to reduce the stigma of mental ill-health, promote mental hygiene and appropriate help-seeking, and develop programs and referral pathways for mental health support.
- Understand and evaluate the structure and effectiveness of workplace wellbeing programs, including, but not limited to, stress management and coping, fostering resilience, systems design (including employee co-development), and value-based, respectful and inclusive work environments.

Workload
The expected workload will consist of approximately 130 hours throughout the semester including:
- on-campus component that may consist of three hours of lecture/seminar discussion per week across the semester (36 total hours);
- approximately 94 hours of self-directed study that will include preparation for lectures, presentations and other assessment tasks, as well as engaging in deep learning of course material.
