This course provides an opportunity for students to participate in learning abroad opportunities, such as faculty-led study tours, offered by the Bell School each year.
Information on each topic offered within this shell course will be outlined in the 'Other Information' section, including the topic title, and information on the unit value, convener, academic session and indicative workload. All of the topics offered through this course will be made available through a competitive selection process.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:
- To develop and critically apply expertise about relevant theories and concepts related to the field of study
- To understand the practical, empirical, social, and/or individual dimensions of the field of study through field school participation and understand the causes of those perspectives
- To develop communication skills in a variety of formats and to diverse audiences
- To engage with a variety of practitioners and local perspectives across cultural and social differences in respectful and informed ways

The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. Workload
Topics in this course are offered as semester-length in-country study, or through intensive in-country study delivered in a non-standard academic session.
All students will:
- Participate in a preparatory seminar at ANU
- Complete an overseas study component
- Contribute to an online ANU community
- Participate in a debrief session at ANU
Inherent Requirements
To complete this course, students must participate in the field trip/study tour to a domestic or international field location. To participate in the trip, students must be able to:
- Travel to the field location and stay in field accommodation such as shared basic cabins or dorm rooms;
- Monitor and manage their own health while studying and living with a small group of people at the location, which may be isolated;
- Understand and respect the needs of other participants and act professionally throughout the trip.
Students who cannot meet these requirements will not be able to participate in the trip and therefore cannot complete the course.
In addition, some of the trip options may require students to:
- Safely traverse 2-3km over uneven ground at a moderate pace.
Students who can provide evidence they are unable to meet this requirement may be able to choose other options or negotiate alternative participation and assessment requirements with the course convenor.
