COMP3770 is an Annual course (6+6) that must be completed twice, in consecutive semesters.


This is an Individual Research Project (IRP) within the Bachelor of Advanced Computing (Research and Development) (Honours) degree, specifically designed to provide a strong research focus customised to each student. These give students valuable research experience along with the opportunity to explore different research areas prior to their final Honour's project.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:

  1. plan and engage in an independent and sustained critical investigation and evaluation of a chosen computer science research topic,
  2. engage in systematic discovery and critical review of appropriate and relevant information sources,
  3. propose, develop and evaluate different approaches for solving a research problem, and
  4. communicate research concepts and contexts clearly and effectively, in writing and orally and in the production of a research-related artifact.

This research project course gives students valuable research experience along with the opportunity to explore different research areas prior to their final Honour's project.

The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. Workload

Annual Course. Student enrol in Semester 1 and Semester 2 in consecutive semesters.

No formal classtime is required in this course. Students will meet regularly with their supervisor througout the semester.

Requisite and Incompatibility

To enrol you must: be studying Bachelor of Advanced Computing (Research and Development) AND have successfully completed COMP2550 AND find a project/supervisor AND have received a permission code by having completed all the steps required for Enrolling in student projects including completing the Student Project Registration Form. Finding a project/supervisor is best done before the start of the semester you are intending to do this course.

You will need to contact the School of Computing to request a permission code to enrol in this course.
