Students undertake a year long research project, under direct supervision of an academic from the Research School of Economics. The student will work closely with their supervisor throughout the year, and will learn how to produce an independent piece of academic research.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:

  1. Develop the capacity to perform high-level independent research
  2. Exhibit in-depth knowledge of their chosen research topic
  3. Demonstrate a high level of ability to critically analyse and evaluate economics research questions and communicate the results

Other Information

This course must be taken as 18 credit units over two consecutive semesters. The student must take this course as a minimum 6 credit unit course in their first semester, and as a 12 credit unit course in their second semester.

The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. While the use of Turnitin is not mandatory, the ANU highly recommends Turnitin is used by both teaching staff and students. Workload

Students are expected to work independently on their research research essay for a total of 390 hours (130 hours per 6-unit course).

Inherent Requirements

Students must be enrolled in an Honours program administered by the Research School of Economics (HECON or ECON-HSPC).

Requisite and Incompatibility

You will need to contact the Research School of Economics to request a permission code to enrol in this course.
